NEW HAVEN RECOGNIZES "NATIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATOR WEEK"

(4/14/2010) NEW HAVEN- As part of National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week, the City of New Haven recognizes its 48 full-time telecommunicators who work tirelessly days, nights, weekends and holidays to answer calls from those in need.

“Our telecommunicators deal with considerable amounts of stress and are seldom recognized for their efforts,” said Clayton Northgraves, Director of Public Safety Communications. “I would like to recognize them for all of their hard work and dedication.”

Each year, the second full week of April is dedicated to the men and women who serve as public safety telecommunicators. This celebration was first conceived by Patricia Anderson of the Contra Costa County (Calif.) Sheriff's Office in 1981 and was observed only at that agency for three years but in 1991 was introduced in Congress as a national observance.
